I'm Saved, Now What?

ISBN - 978-0-9752742-5-5

We have received so many powerful testimonies from pastors and students all over who have taught from this book or used it for personal studies. Many churches use it for bible class for their entire church, not just new believers.

One of the most detailed but user-friendly handbook for New Believers and for those desiring a refresher course. This book is packed with practical information to aid the new Believer in establishing a firm foundation in the things of God.

It can be used as a 12-week or more study course for your church's New Believer's Class or as a gift to new Believers. At the end of each chapter there are review questions.

The study guide is filled with scriptures to aid in your personal study or to assist teachers in equipping the new Believer.

This book is not just for the new Believer.  There are some Christians who have been saved for quite some time but do not know the books of the bible or what salvation or justification really encompass, or how to deal with the war of the flesh, etc. Therefore, this book is not just for the recently saved but for all those seeking knowledge on growing in their walk with the Lord.

There is a welcome page and a page giving a brief overview of the study guide.

Excerpts from the Welcome Page:

Welcome to the Body of Christ. What an awesome decision you have made. We are blessed that you have chosen to become a member of the family of God.  It is our prayer that you will continuously grow in your relationship with the Lord and that the Father of glory may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.

Your church’s leadership staff is available to assist you in your journey, so please know that you are not alone.  There will be days when you may experience difficulties and have doubts but know that you have a support family that is more than willing to instruct you in Godly wisdom, to pray with and for you, and to listen.  We encourage you to utilize all the resources that are made available to you so that you will be equipped to do the work of the ministry.

Excerpts from Chapter 1:

Definition  - Literally, it means to fully deliver someone or something from impending danger. We were in danger of being permanently separated from God “but you, who once were estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he (Jesus) has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him” (Colossians 1:21-22, RSV).  Salvation is our deliverance from the guilt and power of sin.   Theologically, salvation is the whole process of deliverance in which God has made available to mankind.  It entails deliverance from the power of sin (Romans 6:8-18), the guilt of sin (Romans 8), the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13), and deliverance from that which hinders us from enjoying the blessings of Abraham (Romans 4:13; Galatians 3:7-29).

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

i)       Redemption is the deliverance of man from slavery to sin, the penalty of sin and the curse of the law by Christ paying the price.

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

1)      Through redemption, our debt was not merely cancelled but paid in full.  Christ became the ransom payment.  Redemption means that we are no longer slaves to sin because Jesus paid in full our ransom and we are now free (Romans 5:6-9; 9:10-12).

Excerpts from Chapter 5: (God the Father)

Memory Verse: And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: {the LORD: or, JEHOVAH}  And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them (Exocdus 6:2-3).

a)      Before Moses' encounter with God in the Midianite desert, God was known generally as the God of the Fathers (Ex. 2:24; 3:15).  The extent of the children of Israel’s knowledge of God was that he was the God of their forefathers and he was the creator.  They did not doubt God’s existence but they did not have an understanding of who he was.  This is why Moses asked God, ‘What is your name and who should I say sent me?’  They did not have a relationship with God for themselves; it was based on Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s  relationship.

i)       Yahweh or Jehovah (Lord) means the self-existent one (I am who I am or I am the One who is). Scholars say that it denotes God's personal name and his eternality.  Throughout the bible it is often used in relationship to God as redeemer and covenant keeper.  God's personal name was so sacred to most Jews that they feared to write or say it lest they misused it; therefore, they substituted Adonai for Yahweh.  Jehovah is an English word created from the other two to stand for God's personal name  (Genesis 2:4; Exodus 3:14; Psalm 68:14).

a)      El Shaddai means ``God Almighty" “all powerful”, “all sufficient”.   In Hebrew El means “might”, “strength”, “power”.  Shad means “breast”. God has more than enough nourishment to supply your every need and to comfort you (Genesis 17:1; 28:3, 35:11, 43:14; Exodus 6:3; Number 24:6; Psalms 22:10, 68:14).  Read Psalms 91 and you will gain great insight into the meaning of El Shaddai.

Excerpts from Chapter 8: (The Gifts of the Holy Spirit)

Brief Overview of Spiritual Gifts

1)    What Are Spiritual Gifts?

 1)      Spiritual Gifts are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit revealing the supernatural power that God has given to Christians for the expanding of God’s kingdom.

a)      Gifts are given to us according to God’s grace and will  (“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us….” Romans 12:6a; I Corinthians 12:11)

b)     As every man has received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God (I Peter 4:10).

a)      Mercy - This gift enables one to move beyond normal human sympathy and concern and it empowers one to discern the need of others and propels one into action to respond to the need. This gift is often found in those called to intercession, senior care ministry, homeless shelter ministry, etc.   They normally operate within various supportive ministries. Acts 9:36 tells us about Tabitha (Dorcas). It appears that she possibly operated in this gift.

 b)      Exhortation   The gift of being able to consistently and effectively admonish, stir, encourage, and instruct others.  They give powerful discourses that motivate others to change, move forward, repent, etc.  They also are able to comfort the wounded in spirit and God can flow through them to release a refreshing upon the congregation.  They are great encouragers.

 c)      Gift of Faith This is not saving faith (Ephesians 2:8) but wonder-working faith.  The supernatural ability to believe God without any doubt, without any hesitation. It is the speaking forth, the believing forth of a miracle. The supernatural ability to stand flat-footed, non-wavering, in the face of adversity, difficulty and hopelessness with the assurance that God will perform a miracle.  The person with this gift overlooks resources and natural circumstances and speak forth the miracle (Acts 20:7-12; 2 Kings 4:42-44).

Excerpts from Chapter 9: (There is a War Going On)

There is a War Going On

Memory Verse: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3).

Identifying the War

So I find this law at work:  when I want to do good, evil is right there with me.  For in my inner being  I delight in God’s  law; but I see another law at work in the  members of my body waging war against the law of my mind  and  making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.

a)      There is war between good and evil.  Your “inner being” (spirit) desires good but the “members of your body” (flesh) desires evil and these two are in conflict, warring against your mind.

b)     Inner Being = Spirit (your born again spirit that delights in serving God)

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin (Romans 6:6).

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter (Romans 7:6).

Mind = (your thoughts) – Sin begins in your mind.  This is why Matthew 5:28 tells us that, …If a man looks upon a woman to lust after her he has already committed adultery in his heart. You must cast down every imagination that is contrary to God’s Word.

1)    Sin

b)     What is sin? – Disobeying God’s will, either by omitting to do what God’s law requires or by doing what it forbids.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4).

Mankind was created without sin but sin entered into the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eve  (Genesis 3).

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (Romans 5:12).

1)    How Do I Bring My Flesh Under Subjection?

a)      When we speak of bringing our body under subjection we are saying that we are to control our flesh by disciplining it and denying it the pleasures that distracts it and draws it away from holiness and its Godly purpose. We are to have authority over our flesh instead of it ruling us.

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway (1 Corinthians 9:27).
